Vancouver Island was great fun with the 6 'young' Young Explorers. We were able to share with them some amazing sights of the Orcas and to take them crab fishing and to see the local sights. No sooner were they off the boat, then the next group of people arrive. We have a few days back in Vancouver then we will continue our trip North, next stop to Haida Gwaai for some more amazing Nature.

Kika – the fun begins!

After 6 hours of sailing from Vancouver B.C. to Sidney on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, our young Young Explorers become experts at raising the sails, scrubbing the deck and following the commands of skipper Mike Horn. Its all good fun, but nothing can describe the feeling when the youths spot Orca whales just off the coast of San Juan Islands.

The kika trip begins!

Kika film crew, journalists and 5 young explorers (aged 10 – 11years)  join Mike Horn aboard Pangaea for a 3 day nature experience around the Southern tip of Vancouver Island. Join the fun onboard Pangaea as they send us their blogs and photos.

We first got on the boat and we met everyone. Then we talked about all the safeties and we walked around to see the boat. The cabin that my friend Olha and I are staying in is really nice and we have our own washroom and everything. Then we all had dinner that was cooked for us. It was really good. After dinner we just walked around the boat. Olha, Noah and I just sat around listening to music later at 11:00 while they were also working on homework. Then Olha and I went in to our cabin and we got ready and then we went to bed. Olha slept on the top bunk and I slept on the bottom. At first I was really tired but Olha kept on waking me up, and then I wasn’t that tired and she fell asleep, so I walked around the boat and then 40 minutes later I went back to bed and finally went to sleep. I woke up a few times in the night and at 5:30 am I got up for a while because I heard everyone walking on the boat. At 7:00 Olha and I woke up and we got ready. We walked out of the cabin and everyone was already upstairs in the main area, the main area is kind of like a living room. And now we are typing on the computers and I’m going to have breakfast.

Pangaea leaves on another nature experience

We safely moored in Coal Harbour Vancouver. The weather looks good for the next couple of days. We will set sail to to Vancouver Island with 5 young explorers to give them a taste of adventure and do some whale watching. We will go and find the Orcas or better nown as the killer whale. Please follow us for the next 5 days to see some amazing photos of the killer whales.

Pangaea returns to Vancouver

After being in the 'cocktail shaker' from LA to SF the calm returned once again for Mike and his crew aboard Pangaea. The trip north following the costline from the USA to Canada was uneventful. Smooth sailing and spectacular sunsets helped the team get to the city of Vancouver. It's just a short stop-over before Mike sails with some youths to the wonderful nature destination of Vancouver Island.

Pangaea has made good progress up north, we have the dolphins visiting us daily playing with the wake of the boat and snow capped mountains as a backdrop. It's still cold out here but we have been rewarded with some amazing sunrises that is then replaced later in the day with rain. Variety is the spice of life and there is no such thing as bad weather – it's just weather.
